Become a Master Teacher

Fellows engage the full spectrum of medical learners in diverse settings. Our faculty are uniquely situated to offer fellows opportunities to explore teaching and learning with pre-medical students, undergraduate medical students, residents and fellows, and in ongoing faculty/professional development. Fellows are directly observed and receive structured feedback on teaching skills.

Online Monitoring

Develop an academic niche in EM education. With mentorship from among program faculty and others in the Brown University community and beyond, fellows build their personal learning networks while undertaking independent scholarly projects.

  • Study Design

  • Data Collection and Analysis

  • Scholarly Writing

Professional Development

Fellows complete a fully-funded master's degree in medical or health professions education. Fellows may choose from among dozens of available programs across the US, finding a graduate program that matches their learning and professional development needs. Brown's program mentors work together with graduate program leaders to align the goals of fellowship with the goals of graduate work. 

 
Additional Networking and Development:

  • Fellows are supported to complete the AAMC Medical Education     Research Certificate (MERC) program

  • Fellows receive support to attend the AAMC and CORD national meetings

  • Fellows may serve in committee or leadership roles in Brown's EM residency, guiding the popular medical student elective in EM, or serving on the Alpert Medical School curriculum committee

Education Scholarship
Clinical Growth

A limited clinical schedule - typically 2 shifts per week in one of BrownEM's teaching sites - allows for growth as an attending emergency physician while developing as an educator. Program graduates appreciate this opportunity to continue to develop their clinical skills in a time-protected manner.
