Medical Education Fellowship
Rhode Island Hospital
A busy full service urban academic ED and the only Level I Trauma and Burn Center in Rhode Island, the Anderson Emergency Center has a volume of well over 100,000 patients per year. This facility features seventy-two urgent rooms, twelve critical care bays, two dedicated CT scanners, an MRI scanner, and an emergency cardiac catheterization lab. There is a 24/7 radiology reading room located in ED. We have a dedicated Emergency Department pod for psychiatric emergencies with an in-house psychiatric team, so these patients can get timely care and do not wait in our main ED. The Emergency Department also has a Clinical Decision Unit for prolonged or overnight observation of patients.
The Miriam Hospital
At the Miriam Hospital, our academically-affiliated community hospital located 2.5 miles away from Rhode Island Hospital on the East Side of Providence, fellows will see patients as the attending physician, and will supervise residents. The Miriam ED has grown in volume, and now sees over 80,000 patients yearly. Nursing staff at the Miriam have routinely achieved national magnet status, and the hospital has been ranked among the top hospitals in the state and in the region.
Fellows may also have the opportunity to work at Newport Hospital, an outstanding 104 bed community hospital that serves the more than 80,000 Newport County residents, seasonal residents, and tourists. It is located near the water in beautiful downtown Newport, Rhode Island and serves more than 32,000 ED patients per year. The department is supported by a full range of dedicated specialists.
